Continuing medical education (CME) programs created for health care providers will increasingly need to satisfy higher quality standards, especially in terms of program design and educational content.
To satisfy the requirements for MOC accreditation or Mainpro+ certification, sponsors will need to engage the services of an appropriate organization for the development of all educational initiatives.
So what key criteria should you use in selecting a physician organization, or CME/CPD provider?
From the perspective of both the College of Family Physicians (CFPC) and Conseil Québécois de Développement Professionnel Continu des Médecins (CQDPCM), it must be a non-profit physician organization with expertise in the development, delivery and evaluation of continuing medical educational activities. It can no longer be simply a small ad hoc group of physicians organized solely for the purpose of developing a specific educational program.
What is the IC-EBM Canada?
Established in 2011, the International Centre for Evidence Based Medicine (IC-EBM) Canada is a national, registered not-for-profit physician organization comprised of a number of highly respected professors of family medicine from leading university medical schools from across Canada.
We fully meet all the requirements for an acceptable CPD provider. All members of the IC-EMB Scientific Council are experts in the review and evaluation of published clinical evidence, and highly knowledgeable about current thinking in terms of medical best practices. And, most important, they are actively involved in the management of patients in a real medical setting, and therefore understand the day-to-day clinical challenges faced by community-based primary care physicians.
What makes the IC-EBM different?
With our extensive knowledge of evidence-informed practice, the IC-EBM Canada is skilled at evaluating the published medical literature and review of clinical practice guidelines for development of treatment algorithms and other useful clinical decision-making tools.
At the same time, we work closely with leading disease consultants or specialists to take advantage of both their expert opinion and wealth of clinical experience in terms of the management of specific patients and medical challenges in each disease area.
How we can enhance the impact of your CME programs!
To achieve sustained learning and a meaningful change in clinical decision-making and practice behaviour, we design engaging learning programs, that not only address important knowledge gaps, but also encourage health care providers to reflect on what they have learned and apply it in the management of their patients..
